Dovid Stein - Muvtach Lo - Exclusive interview, update and sampler
Dovid Stein, a new vocal talent and rising star on the Jewish music scene, will be releasing his debut album entitled "Muvtach Lo" on Rosh Chodesh Ellul. I have the privilege of working with Dovid on a frequent basis.
About two years ago, our friend Yossi Newman, director of the famed "Yeshiva Boys Choir", approached Dovid and asked him to start accompanying him on his many "one man band" jobs. The three of us have worked at a lot of Simchos together. After a few gigs, Yossi asked Dovid if he ever thought about recording an album of his own. Dovid replied that he "had put thought into it but not much," as he did not think a project of this nature could ever be a reality. Yossi informed Dovid that he works with none other than Eli Gerstner--the acclaimed multi-talented Jewish music producer-- would he want him to pitch the solo album idea to Eli. Initially Eli was hesitant to undertake yet another project but after working with Dovid, this album has become one of his main priorities. And that my friends is where it all started.
Now this album has become a reality! It represents a collaboration of "top notch" musicians from Israel and arrangements by some of the most famous names in Jewish music, including Yisroel Lamm, Moshe Laufer, Eli Gerstner. Various composers, such as Eli Gerstner, Yitzy Waldner and Yossi Green, contributed to "Muvtach Lo", giving the album a rich flavor with a wide variety of music to suit all listeners. There is a small clip here, just to give you a taste of what's on tap with this album. The song is called "V'haviosem" and was composed by Eli Gerstner. We are confident that just from this short track you will be impressed & amazed and will be eagerly anticipating this release!!!
There has been a LOT of talk on the web in the last few weeks about Dovid Stein. So far 2 release dates were given and no product. Here we have some Questions some of our readers have sent us & Answers from Dovid in a Q&A forum with Dovid about the album and a 3 min preview of one of the songs to whet your appetite.
MCS: How long have u been working on this cd?
DS: About Two Years.
MCS: How did you meet Eli Gerstner?
DS: Yossi Newman who leads the Yeshiva Boys Choir is also a very well known One Man Band, he plays keyboard and I sing. We were doing a lot of weddings together and he was the "shadchan" between Eli and I.
MCS: Why didn't the cd come out when you say it would on yud tes kislev?
DS: The original date WAS for Yud Tes Kislev but it was very difficult for Eli to get me in the studio to do the vocals because B"H i'm very busy with weddings.
MCS: Why now did it get pushed off again till Rosh Chodesh Elul?
DS: The CD is actually ready to be printed, however Eli as well as Mendy Werdyger from Aderet didn't think that right before pesach was the best time to release a new album, because of sfirat haomer. Meaning we would have to invest in advertising and then we would only have two weeks for the album to sell before sfira, and after going over this with Eli, Mendy, and my Rebbe'im we concluded that the best time would be right after everyone gets back from summer vacation.
MCS: What do you do in the meanwhile? Are you performing?
DS: I sing at a lot of weddings in the New York, New Jersey area, I do weddings across the united states from Miami to Los Angeles. As far as concerts go. I've performed in a few, including the one which was recorded on DVD titled "Yeshiva Boys Choir Live II" where I sing a song that will be on my album called "Layzers" niggun. It's a song that Eli wrote.
MCS: Anything in the near future Dovid?
DS: I will be singing with YBC and The Chevra Tuesday night Chol hamoed, I will be in six flags, Massachusettes on Wednesday of Chol Hamoed, and with Avraham Fried and Miami boys choir on Thursday night Chol Hamoed.
MCS: Please tell us about the album and what there is to look forward to?
DS: The album has 12 amazing songs. Eli wrote most of them, but we have some from Yitzi Waldner and Yossi Green. The arrangements we have are from the biggest names in jewish music today like, Yisroel Lamm, Eli Gerstner and Moshe Laufer. I basically wanted a Mordechai Ben David style album with an Eli Gerstner twist to it, and I think that ppl will be very pleasantly surprised when they hear it.
To show you what we mean, Eli and I have decided to only release this clip of V'haviosim written by Eli Gerstner and arranged by Yisroel Lamm. I can assure you that we will release more as we get closer to the album.
The Rabenstein Learning Center and The Weiss Vocational Program of Yeshiva Darchei Torah are valuable resources of social, emotional, and supportive services for students who need extra assistance. It’s an institution without walls within Darchei Torah, nearly invisible yet clearly defined. Depending on individual situations, students can attend less intense parallel classes that are commensurate with their needs, or avail themselvesof part-time supplementary tutorial support. Based on scholastic ability and proclivity, a small group of students participate in the Weiss vocational track, continuing their regular studies while gaining practical hands-on skills. We invite you to become a partner in our monumental, trailblazing work.
